When Should I Replace the Air Filter? Identification Signs & Maintenance Procedures

Don't let expired filtration damage your HVAC system. Instructions for monitoring differential pressure to replace at the right time.

When Should I Replace the Air Filter? Identification Signs & Maintenance Procedures

A question VAF often receives: "How often do I have to change the filter?". The answer does not lie in time (3 months or 6 months), but in pressure difference.

1. Pressure Drop rule

Each filter has the parameter "Recommended Final Resistance". Normally:

  • Coarse filter (G4): Replace when differential pressure reaches 250 Pa.
  • Filter bag (F7-F9): Replace when differential pressure reaches 450 Pa.
  • HEPA filter (H13-H14): Replace when the differential pressure reaches 600 Pa (or double the initial differential pressure).

2. Risk of not changing the filter on time

If you try to use a filter that is clogged with dust, you will face:

  • Power consumption: The fan must run at full capacity to push air through the clogged filter.
  • Filter platform: Too much wind pressure can tear the filter paper, causing dust to flood into the clean room (very serious consequences).
  • Reduce air flow: The room does not have enough air exchange times, the dust concentration increases.
